The Library of Fredericia

» Library rules    » Time limits    » Reservations    » Late returns    » Books, music and movies

Welcome to The Library of Fredericia. We offer a wide range of services e.g. books, music, movies, and retrieval of information. Most of the Library materials are in Danish, but we have a collection of titles in 12 different languages from The Immigrants Library - as well as several other European languages. It is free to use the Library, but there are some rules to know about:

Library rules:

What can I do as a user of the library:

  • Check out books, DVDs, CDs, and other library materials
  • Search online data bases
  • Check your library account online
  • Place holds on items and request delivery to a branch of your choice
  • Request a book, a CD, a DVD, etc.
  • Reserve time on a library computer

Registration:

  • You must register in the library of Fredericia  or in one of its branches.
  • Your "sygesikringsbevis" (Your National Health Insurance card) is valid as a Library card. Children under 14 get at special library card (see below).
  • On registration you have to produce a valid proof of identity, with a photo, such as a driver’s license, passport, or an asylum-seeker’s card.
  • Your "sygesikringsbevis / borrower’s card"  must be presented at every loan.
  • You are responsible for any item borrowed on your card.
  • If you lose your card, please inform the library staff at once in order to avoid misuse.
  • If you change your name or move to another address, please inform the staff.
Also if you change your e-mail address.

PIN number:

  • On registration you have to choose a PIN-number which should be used for borrowing,  ordering, or using the self service computers.
  • A Personal Identification Number - or PIN - is a four-digit number which you choose to protect your account with. It works with your library card number.
  • Always keep your PIN private. Never share your card number or PIN with anyone over the phone unless you are speaking to a Library staff member.
  • If you don't know your PIN, have forgotten it or want a new one, ask for help at your library.

Children's Library Card:

  • Children up to fourteen years old can get a childrens' Library Card. You need one of your parents' signature on a registration formula. The Library card will then be handed out to you in the Library.

Receiving Notices About Your Library Account:

There are three choices for receiving notices about your Library account:

  • E-mail notification
  • Paper notices by postal service
  • SMS (from ultimo 2005)

The Library urges our users to choose e-mail in order to reduce operating expenses and conserve paper. Getting Notified by E-mail we will need to have your e-mail address logged to your Library account. If your e-mail address changes, ask your library branch to modify your Library Account.
If you have a filter on your e-mail, Library e-mail notices may be sent to your "junk mail" account. If this happens you can make the e-mail address for the Library's notification service an exception to your filter.

To receive paper notifications from the Library by mail, contact your library branch. If your mailing address changes, contact your library to modify your account.

Check your Library Account:

Account information is available online through the Library Catalog system. If you need help with your account, contact your library staff (phone no. 72 10 68 00). To protect your privacy, always log out of your account when you have finished.

Time limits/expiry dates:

  • Most library materials are on loan for a period for 31 days.
  • Your expiry dates are always printed on your receipt.
  • You can use some materials on the library premises only.
  • You can renew your loan by phone or via Internet up to 3 times, provided there is no reservation on the material. Certain types of materials cannot be renewed.
  • Please, renew (or return) your loans before the expiry date to avoid any charge.
  • Outside opening hours you may return your library materials into the bookbox in Danmarksgade 30 – at your own risk.

Reservations:

  • You can reserve library materials  which are on loan. We can reserve them for you, or you can reserve them  yourself  via our library data base: www.fredericiabib.dk or www.bibliotek.dk (consisting of all public and university  library data bases in Denmark)
  • You will be notified when the library materials are ready for you.
  • Notification by postcard costs the price of the stamp.
  • Notification via Email is free.
  • Materials borrowed from other libraries cannot be renewed via Internet, you will have to inquire personally at the Reception desk.

Late returns:

  • If you return  yourlibrary materials after the expiry date you will be charged according to our current price list.
  • You will receive an invoice on the compensation sum for your borrowed materials if they have exceeded the expiry date by 35 days.
  • At the same time you will be notified, that the right to borrow library materials will stop, if the charge is not paid within 14 days.
  • If you owe 200 dkr or more, you may lose your right to borrow library materials.
  • If the bill is not paid, it will be passed on to the authorities for collection.
  • Please note, that an unpaid charge of 200 dkr or more may result in a distress warrant (§ 32 Public Libraries Act) or a retention in your salary (§33 and 34 Public Libraries Act and § 15 - 20 Publication of the Library System).
  • If you lose, damage or fail to return library materials you will have to pay a compensation price determined by the National Association of Local Authorities and the Association of County Councils.
  • If a cover, a book of accompanying text or the like is missing, the whole piece of material will be considered as spoilt and will have to be compensated for at current prices.

In general:

  • As a main rule compensated materials belong to the library.
  • The compensation sum for a lost library  material can be refunded within 1 year if the material is found and returned and a receipt for paid compensation presented.
  • The library holds no responsibility for possible damage on the borrower’s own hardware or software in connection with the use of borrowed library material.
  • IIf you misuse the library premises, materials or the Internet computers you may be excluded from the library.
  • If you wish to receive library materials delivered to your address, the price is 60 dkr. per unit.

The libraries within The Fredericia Municipality offer to perform special tasks, on demand against payment e. g. ordered information monitoring, genealogy, and Internet courses.
